Neuromodulators for Dynamic Wrinkles
Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport are great for dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements. This includes wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines or “11’s”), forehead lines, lines around the corners of the eyes and lip wrinkles.
When injected into the face, neuromodulators block the nerve signals that tell specific muscles to contract. The muscle temporarily relaxes, and the overlying wrinkles become less noticeable. Neuromodulators must be injected by a qualified injector in order to create natural-looking results and avoid producing a surprised, frozen or artificial expression.
The wrinkle-fighting effects of neuromodulators last approximately three to six months.
Dermal Fillers for Static Wrinkles
Unlike dynamic wrinkles, static wrinkles are present even when the face is relaxed and at rest. They occur due to the skin losing elasticity and volume decreasing as we age. The most common types of static wrinkles include the nasolabial folds (or grooves that appear between the nose and the mouth), marionette lines (creases that extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin) and neck wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are an excellent choice for filling in static wrinkles. Made from ingredients like hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers plump up the area beneath the fold or crease so it becomes less visible. Depending on the product, the filler may also stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen in the treated area for smoother skin. Juvederm, Restylane and Sculptra are some of the most common dermal fillers.
Depending on the product, dermal filler results can last from three to six months up to two years.
